With the success of last year’s Northern Arena tournament, League of Gamers has announced the Northern Arena 2016 Canadian Esports Championships. The event will feature a prize distribution of $200,000 for two events. According to Carl-Edwin Michel, the cofounder of the Canadian League of Gamers, “Canada has some of the most passionate gamers in the world, Connecting Northern Arena with the audiences at Fan Expo and working with Vantrix is a perfect fit. I can’t wait to press play with Canadian and international gaming elite and kick off Northern Arena’s 2016 competitions.”
The event will start on September 1, and will end on September 4. The event will be hosted at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre during the Fan Expo convention. The grand final is the second part of the event, and will be held in Montreal on November 11-November 13. The event will feature 16 teams in total, which 14 will be invited to the event, and the other 2 spots will be held qualifiers in Canada. Both events will be streamed on Twitch.
Qualifier 1: July 13-14
Qualifier 2: October 21-23
