University in Australia offering scholarships to League of Legends players

With the rapid growth of Esports, colleges around the world are getting involved in supporting students on campus, and the growth of talent in a wide selection of games.  Some campuses have supported Esports so much that they built full gaming arenas dedicated to empowering future players and teams to compete at the highest level. Austria joined the Esports industry by offering the first college grant for League of Legends players.

Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane is offering five grants of $10,000 each to attend the school and compete in League of Legends under their name.  As a prominent Esports school in Austria, Michael Trotter and Dylan Poulus saw an opportunity to expand the games supported by the campus and create a program that would resonate with the entire industry. The two psychology students graduated are involved with the QUT movement.  They run the program and oversee the Esports arena.

Dylan Poulus:

“Esports at QUT has just exploded—we’re so excited to have these new scholarships. It’s going to be really competitive and completely merit based. Our current team can apply and so can anyone else who’s coming to QUT next year and think they have what it takes to play in the OCS.” – Dylan Poulus

The college has hired support staff for the League of Legends team:

Coach

Player Manager

Analyst

Performance Psychologist

Sports Nutritionist

Exercise Coach
